Company Overview

Kingston Technology Corporation is an American multinational computer technology corporation that develops, manufactures, sells, and supports flash memory products, other computer-related memory products, and gaming peripherals through its HyperX division (now owned by HP). Headquartered in Fountain Valley, California, the company employs more than 3,000 employees worldwide and has manufacturing and logistics facilities in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Taiwan, and China.

History

Kingston Technology was founded on October 17, 1987, by John Tu and David Sun in response to a severe shortage of 1Mbit surface-mount memory chips. The company initially designed a new single in-line memory module (SIMM) using readily available, older-technology through-hole components. By 1990, Kingston branched out into processor upgrades and later expanded into networking and storage product lines. In 1994, Kingston became ISO 9000 certified on its first assessment attempt. The company experienced significant growth, joining the 'Billion-Dollar Club' in 1995 and being acquired by SoftBank Corporation in 1996, only to be bought back by its founders in 1999.

Core Competencies

Kingston's core competencies include its expertise in memory module manufacturing, contract manufacturing, and supply chain management. The company is known for its high-quality, low-cost memory products designed for system integrators and OEM customers.
