What is CR1616?
The CR1616 is a coin cell battery that is suitable for use in a wide range of smaller electronic devices. The CR1616 battery is suitable for use in a wide range of applications, including key fobs, glucometers, heart rate monitors, toys, computer backup equipment, and more. One of the most popular applications for this battery is in the key fobs for Honda and Lexus vehicles. It is also used in a number of other car brands and devices. A reliable battery provides peace of mind. It is important to ensure that essential devices remain operational at all times. These batteries can be stored long-term with the assurance that you will always have the power you need.
These coin cell batteries, also known as 1616, L28, BR1616, or DL1616, utilise lithium technology and offer high charge density for an extended operational lifespan.
What is CR2025?
The CR2025 is a coin cell battery. Coin cell batteries like CR2025 have a multitude of applications. They are typically utilized in small, portable electronic devices such as:
These batteries are used in a variety of applications, including:
• Wristwatches
• Pocket calculators
• Automobile keyless entry transmitters
• Hearing aids
They are generally of a compact size, 5-25mm in diameter and 1-6mm in height. As indicated by the name, the size of the battery is defined by the first two digits, which represent the diameter, and the second digit, which represents the height or thickness, with tenths of a millimeter. Accordingly, the diameter of the CR2025 is 20mm, with a thickness of 2.5mm.
Lithium button or coin cell batteries have a higher price point than alkaline batteries, but offer longer operational lifespan, reduced weight, and a broader temperature range.

CR1616 vs CR2025: Similarity in Features
- Lightweight, High Voltage, and High Energy Density
The battery voltage is 3V, almost double that of normal alkaline or manganese batteries. This means that the number of batteries required for a device can be cut in half for maximum space and weight savings.
- Excellent Discharge Characteristics
Voltage characteristics remain stable even after long periods of discharge, greatly improving the reliability of equipment using the battery. Such equipment is also maintenance-free (battery replacement is rarely required).
- Excellent Leakage Resistance
The newly developed battery construction and electrolyte ensure maximum leak resistance over a long period of time.
- Excellent Long-Term Reliability
Carefully selected active materials are used for both the active material and the electrolyte.
- RoHS Directive / European Directives
This product does not contain mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), or lead (Pb), and complies with the EC Directive. (Directive 2006/66/EC, 2013/56/EU)
Battery packs are excluded from the RoHS Directive (DIRECTIVE 2011/65/EU OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of June 8, 2011 on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment).
CR1616 vs CR2025: Similarity in Pros and Cons

Can I use a CR2025 battery instead of a CR1616?
Because CR1616 batteries and CR2025 batteries have the same voltage, they can be used interchangeably. However, because 2025s are a few millimeters thicker than the 1616s, they might not fit in cartridges that originally contained 1616s.
Warning:
Although CR1616s are NOT supposed to contain mercury or other heavy metals like cadmium, they are small and compact and even children can swallow them.
For this reason, most manufacturers package their CR1616 and similar batteries in "childproof" packages that require some force to open without some kind of tool. If these batteries are swallowed, induce vomiting immediately, call the emergency services and follow their instructions!
